ORP Setpoints

It is not uncommon for users of ORP controllers to be uncertain how to determine ORP set points. Here is a simple way of determining where to start.

Check chlorine, pH, alkalinity and cyanuric acid levels and adjust to desired levels.

When your water is at the level you want and note the ORP reading on the controller. Round this number to the nearest number ending in 5 or 0 and use this as your set point.

If you want to add or subtract chlorine ppm levels, a good rule to use is +/- 20-30 mV for every 1 ppm of chlorine when cyanuric acid levels are in the 25-50 ppm range. For Higher cyanuric acid levels this can be 10-20 mV. For zero cyanuric acid use 35-40 mV. It is important to make these adjustments
